The 'BIS' in BIS certification stands for the Bureau of Indian Standards and is the national Indian certification body under the umbrella of the Indian Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food & Public Distribution. BIS Certification is a means for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products to the customer. BIS Certification is voluntary in nature; however, the Government of India has made BIS certification mandatory for certain products taking into consideration public security. The BIS certification has been made mandatory by the Government of India for several electrical items in India which include the semiconductor motor controllers, circuit breakers, voltage switchgear, and other products. BIS certification scheme is basically voluntary in nature. However, for a number of products compliances to Indian Standards is made compulsory by the Central Government under various considerations.

BIS is the National Standard Body of India established under the BIS Act 2016 for the harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

All CCTV Camera / Network Video Recorder has been included in the mandatory BIS Registration Scheme under IS standard - IS 13252 (Part 1):2010. This product cannot be exported/imported or sold in Indian consumer market without BIS Registration
